The Rise of the Aspergirls
This past Saturday, IAS president Rudy Simone held an informal talk at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York. The night was called “The Rise of the Aspergirls” and Simone discussed the issues facing women with Asperger’s syndrome and on the autism spectrum worldwide. The audience provided great opportunity for Simone to start conversations throughout the event, with several Aspies and their family members sharing their thoughts as well. She also discussed the creation of the International Aspergirl Society; how any woman on the spectrum can join – and how anyone, on the spectrum or otherwise, can also contribute as a sponsor.
For those who wanted to know more about Asperger’s, the autism spectrum or IAS, Rudy brought not only knowledge but also personal experience, a little bit of humor, and an earnest nature. She helps those who don’t understand life on the spectrum have a better awareness. She opens the door to give people an opportunity to learn and understand, and she is fun along the way. If you see Rudy Simone, don’t go into it expecting a boring lecture style of event. It’s personal, honest and inclusive.
